PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS

There are three Primary Schools in Clonakilty:

In excess of 1,085 students receive second level education at Clonakilty Community College and the Sacred Heart Secondary School. Free education to leaving certificate level is provided by the state in these schools.

CLONAKILTY AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE

Clonakilty Agricultural College, under the direction of Teagasc, the Council for Development in Agriculture, provides training in agriculture to full-time residential students. The college engages in applied research in agriculture and horticulture.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE CORK

University College Cork (52 Km) caters for 10,100 students and provides a full range of graduate and post graduate courses. An Industrial Liaison Department has been established to promote closer links between industry and the resources available in the University. Many industries avail of the research facilities, technology and the highly skilled personnel available at the College.

NATIONAL MICROELECTRONICS RESEARCH CENTRE (UCC)

This Centre, based in the University, educates engineers to work in the Microelectronics Industry by providing modern facilities and high level training. It serves as a centralised research and development laboratory where co-operative university/industry research projects involving new processes and development in microelectronics are being carried out.

REGIONAL TECHNICAL COLLEGE

This Third Level Institute was established in Cork City in 1974. It provides courses in Science, Computer Technology, Engineering (Electronic, Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Marine and Chemical) and Business Studies . Degree, diploma and cert courses are available and there are places for 3,500 full-time students, 5,000 part-time students, and 1,900 apprentices.

FAS

FAS, the Industrial Training Authority, operates training centres in Cork City and Clonakilty. Courses are offered in Construction, Electrical Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation and Tool-Making. The Cork centre caters for 700 adult trainees.
